Important Hurricane Preparedness Message from Pointe Coupee Parish OHSEP

Today, June 1, 2026, officially begins the Atlantic hurricane season and will run through November 30, 2026. The forecast predicts a near normal to slightly below-average activity this year. Historically, warm ocean waters mean storms can rapidly develop and intensify right before landfall. Additionally, the El Nino conditions this year can rapidly produce “home grown” events / storms with limited warning of less than 24 to 48 hours.
It only takes one storm to devastate a community, regardless of the seasonal forecast. Pointe Coupee Parish is highly susceptible to high winds that cause downed trees, structural damage, prolonged power outages, and sudden flash flooding. Local infrastructure can become overwhelmed quickly.
Your personal household game plan is your family’s first line of defense. Take the time and make your preparations now.
The attached flyer can help you with developing and making your PLAN. Please share this message with family, friends, coworkers, businesses, etc. to ensure widest dissemination.
