Waterways

Pointe Coupee Parish is surrounded by three major rivers: the Mississippi on the east, the Atchafalaya River on the west, and the mouth of the Red River on the north.  The Pointe Coupee Port and Industrial Park is an 84-acre site on Lower Old River and is approximately equidistant from Baton Rouge, Alexandria and Natchez, Miss. It is the only dock facility between Baton Rouge and Natchez, Krotz Springs and Alexandria.

Man Fishing

Recreation

As part of the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area, you’ll have plenty of options for boating, fishing and hunting, or just enjoying a day along the water’s edge at public piers, restaurants, and bars on both False River and Old River!

Our parish is also home to the triathlon capital of Louisiana, hosting three triathlons per year, Louisiana Triathlon, River Roux, Triathlon, and Freedom Fest Triathlon.

Harvesting Wheat

Agriculture

Nestled between the Atchafalaya and Mississippi rivers that provide deep alluvial soils, Pointe Coupee is one of the most diverse agricultural parishes in the state. Some 165,000 acres of land are used to farm cotton, sugarcane, soybeans, corn, milo, wheat, cattle, hay, vegetables, rice, crawfish and pecans.

Alma Plantation is currently home to Pointe Coupee Parish's only operating sugar mill. Alma is one of only 11 sugar mills still operating in the state of Louisiana. It produces raw sugar and blackstrap molasses.

False River Regional Airport is a thriving general aviation facility that has support from the surrounding community, adequate and well-maintained facilities, and effective management.

The mission of the False River Regional Airport (HZR) is to continue its role as a leading general aviation airport in Louisiana, to attract the general aviation flying public, and maximize its economic potential for the general aviation public.

The airport is owned by the Parish of Pointe Coupee and City of New Roads and is operated by the False River Air Park Commission and Airport Manager/Director Yvonne Chenevert. The airport has progressively grown with assistance from the Federal Aviation Administration, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, Parish of Pointe Coupee, City of New Roads, and other entities.
